Folkloric recording. Adriaan and Denise Vanderlugt talk about their backgrounds. Adriaan's family's move to Canada from Holland; his schooling; his interest in Indian artefacts; his involvement in art at school; his job in Graphic Design; coming to Australia (1967); meeting Denise in Townsville; returning to Canada with her; his work there and Indigenous art studies; his sculptural work; their return to Australia (1979); building their house and clearing of the land; becoming president of Regional Arts board; his column in the local newspaper; sculpting from 1980s; being invited to Sydney to show his work (1985); another exhibition successfully staged (1989); 'Rocking kangaroos'; grant from Arts Qld., travel to Zimbabwe.
Denise Vanderlugt talks about her family origins; parents farming near Rockhampton; her early life; moving to Proserpine (1964); the development of her quilting work; sewing training; travelling to Townsville (1967); her nursing training; meeting Adriaan and their marriage five months later; her interest in sewing art, developing in Canada, learning quilting; their return to Proserpine, Qld; 'Happy Valley Quilt'; commissions for quilts, becoming a full time quilter; her Sydney exhibition at Stern Gallery; overseas trips; teaching through the Quilters' Groups; basket making; her children's book (2007) and travelling exhibition, 'Where Rainbows Live'; her introduction to linocuts, print making and book binding; her involvement in the Federation Committee; Sculpture symposium, (2001); their awards; school workshops; a joint work at Longreach; works in progress. Adriaan talks about the effect of two artists in the same house; sharing the work and time; the need for individuality.
