Many centuries ago while the town of Hamelin was suffering from a rat plague. a mysterious man appeared claiming he could get rid of the rats in return for 1000 gilders. The man played a musical pipe to lure the rats into the Weser River. However the people refused to pay him. Angrily he played his pipe yet again, this time attracting the children of Hamelin. The Piper led the children to a cave on Koppelberg Hill (outside of Hamelin). The Piper is payed for his work and the children are returned safely.
