One volume copy of typescript entitled "The discovery of gold in Australia: part 1", telling the story of how Edward Hammond was the first person to discover payable gold in Australia at Ophir near Orange in 1851. Copies of letters between various officials and William Hargraves, and newspaper clippings pertaining to the erection of an obelisk as a commemorative to Edward Hargraves. A photograph of Edward Hargraves is included. A second volume copy of typescript is included, entitled "A supplementary to the brochure on the discovery of gold in Australia".
