- Summary:
-
In 1994 the Royal Australian Navy required a carbon dioxide/oxygen monitor for use in a disabled submarine. The monitor needed to operate accurately and reliably in conditions which could include variations from normal temperature, pressure and humidity and a lack of submarine power. A statement of requirements was prepared and laboratory testing performed on monitors manufactured by Scottish Anglo Environmental Protection Ltd, UK (Analox unit) and by Geotechnical Instruments, UK (Anagas unit). The units were assessed for their physical attributes, ease of operation, response times, accuracy and precision of readings under various conditions, effects of potentially interfering gases and onboard useability. Overall, the Analox monitor was considered to be the better option but several alterations to this unit are strongly recommended.
