This information package contains five of seven reports on efforts to introduce instructional innovations into the school systems. The first report deals with the role of the association in implementing innovations. The points stressed are negotiating contracts with school boards, keeping abreast of school district and state education department policies, and providing help to teachers in procuring the resources necessary for change. The second report contains excerpts from a National Association (NEA) conference "The Professional Association and its Role in Instruction." The report presents examples of what local associations have done to ensure teacher participation in instructional development and innovation. The third report is a summary of the Ford Foundation analysis entitled "A Foundation Goes to School," which describes the $30 million effort to improve education in the 1960s. The fourth report presents information on teacher centers and their involvement in curriculum and program changes. The last report is a Briefing Memo from NEA on a new approach for keeping teachers. informed of innovative developments. A three-page bibliography for the entire information package is presented.
