Captain James Weddell was a British navigator sailor and sea hunter after whom the Weddell Sea is named. Joining the navy in 1796, Weddell eventually advanced to the rank of Master, receiving training in Antarctic Waters.

- "The Weddell Bed was purchased from Mr Charles Weddell, a descendant of Captain James Weddell, in March 1958 in Bath by Rex Nan Kivell. Attributed to the Sheraton furniture style, the bed is likely to have been made in the early nineteenth century, possibly 1820.
