Nephew of Sir Oliver Lodge and son of Professor Alfred Lodge of Oxford, Christopher Elliot Lodge was born in Surrey, England, and entered the musical field as a choirboy and cellist with St. George's Chapel School, Windsor Castle. He studied Music, Economics and Law at Cambridge University and pursued a financial career until emigrating to Australia in 1924 where he settled in the Grenfell-Forbes district and combined singing engagements with a competitive interest in agriculture and land improvement.
