- Summary:
-
Drypoint etching artist book, double-sided concertina structure, wrapped by 47 mm wide paper belly band with title, artist's signature, number and date on it. Hand-printed on 145gsm Zerkhall paper by Jaime Powell and 5 Press. Features two contrasted images: natural forest landscape on one side and modern buildings on the other side. The artist writes, "On one side is a claustrophobic close up of Melbourne's city skyline, and on the other is an image of a section of the old growth forests around the Central Highlands in Victoria. Parts of the forest in the distance show the landscape damaged by bushfires, and parts of trees in the foreground suggest burnt remains. I wanted to draw parallels between the cause and affect nature of our current growth paradigm and our economic priorities, and the impact this has on our natural environment. 'Growth' originally refers to nature but as a society we have taken that idea and redefined it - I wanted to emphasise this push and pull between one kind of environment and the other and point out the contradictions in our capitalist mindset. It will be in our best interest to 'invest' in sustainability - we don't really have a choice."
