Correspondence 1808-50 of Edward Stanley, 13th Earl of Derby. Subjects include: dispatch of Australian and New Zealand birds for Lord Stanley's natural history collection; New Zealand expedition; John MacGillivray; and Birds of Australia. Correspondents include J. Gilbert, John Gould, J. Burke, J. Gray and G.W. Earl. Journal 9 March-27 May 1853 kept by passenger on emigrant ship Marco Polo on a voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne. Reports and correspondence 1922-71 of Mersey Docks and Harbour Board concerning visit by T.H. Hawkins to Australia and New Zealand 1922-23, Australian wool, and increased railway rates. Correspondents include H.R. Richards, H.R. Young and D.T.R. Bradford. Letters 1852-53 of James Battersby describing conditions on the Victorian goldfields. Letters 1847-90 of Edward Danson in New South Wales to John T. Danson. Papers 1855 of J.G.W. Lockett, including a diary kept on the Hope on a voyage from London to Port Phillip and printed items concerning the vessel. Correspondence 1878-1915 of Leyland Family, including references to the Sudan War, effects of war on employment and prices, and return of wounded soldiers from Gallipoli. Diary 1858-59 of John Hedges describing a voyage from Liverpool to Sydney on the Admiral Lyons. Correspondence 1856-1939 of Archibald Crawford, biscuit manufacturer of Leith, Scotland, mostly concerning his brothers James and William who lived in Australia. The letters of James and William Crawford describe life on board the Arcadia 1891 and Ormuz 1921; work on a sheep farm in New South Wales; the war and its effect on business; and the effects of drought and depression on rural property. Correspondents include William Crawford, Thomas Crawford, James S.R. Crawford, Doreen Crawford, Margaret Crawford and Victoria Crawford.
