- Summary:
-
This anecdotal yarn by agricultural journalist, Bill Kerr, provides a fascinating insight into life in a small Queensland sugar town in the 1940s-50s. The publication tells, through numerous photographs and entertaining text, how Aussie battlers, Percy, and Dorothy Kerr, raised a large, successful family that has spread far and wide from its origins in the impoverished Tin Town area of Sarina, a small community south of Mackay. The book combines known facts about the origins of the Kerr and Bedford families from Yeppoon with the author's own life experiences, reminiscences and childhood anecdotes and emphasizes the vital role of the author's mother, a hard-working woman who devoted her life to her family of eight children and to others. It also describes his career experiences as a leading rural print journalist with Queensland Country Life newspaper and the Queensland Canegrowers Organisation.
