- "Two Elizabethan pieces. 1. Pavane: A pavane is a slow professional dance, usually in duple metre, with three repeated sections (AABBCC). This Pavane is based on a piece for Daniel Bachelor for two bass viols. 2. Browning: A Browning is an Elizabethan musical form based on the melody of a popular song ('The leaves be green'). The melody is repeated in a contrapuntal texture. In this case the 8 bar melody is first stated by Alto Saxophone 1 and then repeated by various instruments nine times. The arrangement is based on several Brownings of the period, principally one by William Byrd"--About the music.
