Summary

Folkloric recording.

Dieter Bajzek, born in Graz, Austria recalls his family background; his early years in a musical environment, living in a guesthouse in a village; yodeling, instruments played; dialect songs; folk songs; schooling & games played in the village; musical influences on him in the village & later in the city; Catholic education at a boarding school at Graz, where he learnt piano accordion & singing in the school choir; training as a photo lithographer; his musical life, his own band at 17 years of age, playing for dances using radios as amplifiers; modernisation of music after WWII, commenting on the translation of music; migrating to Australia, job having been organised in Germany; early days in Australia; Bonegilla & Maribynong Migrant Camps; focusing on his music, playing & teaching piano accordion & percussion.

Bajzek recalls how he worked & completed a degree course in Music at Latrobe University, Melbourne, following this with a Master of Arts, Major in Music; writing a thesis on yodeling; examples of Australian yodeling. He speaks about the formation of the Austrian Choir in Melbourne, Vic. (1981); growth of Choir's repertoire, including both traditional & original music; highlights of the Choir, 1st CD recorded in 1989; his work with the cultural group The Boite; his administrator roles in Folk Alliance Australia & the Austrian Choir; the beginnings of his work administrating & organizing, listing the many administrating roles he has held; receiving medals for his contribution to Austrian culture in Australia.
