Wyner, former President of the Federated Ship Painters Dockers' Union of Australia, speaks about his family background; life during the Depression in Balmain; early jobs; early involvement with the Communist Party; working in the NSW Public Service; joining Painters and Dockers Union in 1939; working at Cockatoo Island; working conditions; activities as union delegate; Fourth International Socialists; Communist influence in Union; Federal Council of the Union; industrial groups; alderman at Leichhardt Council; expulsion from Labor Party in 1968; changing social and economic conditions during his lifetime; industrial safety and workers compensation; Labor Council; relations between unions and Labor governments; the arbitration system.
