Summary

Recollections of formation of Barton Ministry, establishment of Commonwealth Parliament and many of the parliamentarians in the first Parliament. Most of the chapters are devoted to individual parliamentarians and include details about their background and early lives, with occasional references to their later careers. The work includes impressions of Sir Edmund Barton, Alfred Deakin, Sir George Turner, Lord Hopetoun, Sir William Lyne, C.C. Kingston, Sir John Forrest, Sir Austin Chapman, Sir Philip Fysh, Sir George Reid, Sir Joseph Cook, J.C. Watson, Andrew Fisher, Sydney Smith, Sir Frederick Holder, Richard O'Connor, James Drake, John Keating, Gregor McGregor, Sir Robert Best, E.L. Batchelor, Sir George Pearce, W.M. Hughes, Sir Thomas Ewing and Samuel Mauger.

Journalist. Reporter and Chief of Staff of "Argus" (Melbourne) 1895-1911, Managing editor of "Sun" (Sydney) 1915-1931.
