Eve Sher, born 1911 in Sorca, Besarabia, speaks about her family; her schooling; Romania taking over Besarabia, the Bolsheviks coming; the Cossacks on their horses; people being shot; the schools being closed; her escape from Russia and going to Paris; life in Paris: her father's death; her mother's escape from Russia; meeting her future husband Leon Sher in Paris; getting married; spending time in Jerusalem; their arrival in Fremantle, Australia in 1937; the move to Melbourne; the early days living in Melbourne; talks about her life and relationship with her husband and later his death.

Sher speaks of her involvement with the Jewish Welfare Society; Frances Barkman House; her work for the children in Israel; learning machine embroidery; her work for the Myer Emporium; her embroidery shop in a Collins Street arcade; her first charitable works; her welfare work beginning with the Red Cross; driving a truck; collecting old clothing; helping Jewish people from all over Europe; Bonegilla; being a representative of the United Nations Association (Australia) for twenty-five years; her meeting Eleanor Roosevelt in Paris; raising money for the Grey Sisters and the United Nations; the honours she has received; her work for the Liberal Party over fifty-five years; Overseas Settlement Committee; fund-raising for hospitals; the establishment of Recovery; receiving an award from the Liberal Party in 2001 for lifetime service.
