Summary

Brabham speaks of how he first gain world champion status in 1959 driving for the Cooper car company with one of the first rear engine cars; gaining experience in racing car maintenance fitted with light aluminium engines when he first went to England in 1955; how the championship is defined by the winning of a series of 12 national Grand Prix races and controlled by the FIA in Paris; how he won the 1960 championship with the development of the Cooper low-line car, his teaming with Bruce McLaren; how he and Ron Tauranac began their own car company in 1962 & developed a Formula One car; the lack of sponsorship at the time meant he had to approach Repco, another Australian company for financial assistance; how Repco's engine designer helped with the development of the V8 engine; how Jackie Stewart instigated safety improvements to racing but not til the 1970s did the FIA impose safety regulations.

Biography/History

Brabham was 3 times world racing car champion in 1959, 1960 and 1966. He was named Australian of the Year in 1966.
