On 8 March 2010, as a result of Machinery of Government changes, a new Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency was established. On 25 March 2013, the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency was abolished with functions split between the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism
