On December 14, 2011, the portfolio was expanded to: Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education and the department acquired the functions and of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. On Mar. 25, 2013, the name was changed to: Department of Innovation, Industry, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education.
