  • The Commonwealth Parliament Library came into being in 1901. From 1923 two forms of name were used concurrently: Commonwealth National Library and Commonwealth Parliament Library, to designate the national and parliamentary collections respectively. In 1960 the National Library of Australia was created by act of parliament, and the two collections were separated

  • In 1945 the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library became the Film Division of the Commonwealth National Library. In 1960 the Division transferred to the newly-established National Library of Australia
