  • The name of the U.S. Federal Water Pollution Control Administration (established on Dec. 3, 1965) was changed in May 1970 to Federal Water Quality Administration. In Dec. 1970 the Federal Water Quality Administration became the Water Quality Office of the Environmental Protection Agency. In mid-1971 the name was changed from Water Quality Office to Office of Water Programs. In July 1972 the Office of Water Programs was abolished and the Office of Water Program Operations and the Office of Water Planning and Standards were created. In Oct. 1984 the Office of Water Program Operations became the Office of Municipal Pollution Control. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication
