Eldridge speaks of her early years in Stanley (Tas.) where she was born in 1921; her grandfather's history, a mathematician and Tasmania's leading flautist from whom she developed a love of music; musical evenings with family and friends; the railway in 1922, which opened up the area; electricity in 1945; industry in Stanley- passenger boats; her school years starting at 6 years of age and finishing high school at 13 years in 1934; recites poem Australian Sunrise; learning a special song for the visit of the Duke of Gloucester.
Eldridge speaks of the hardships of The Depression, a lot of people out of work; the community surviving The Depression; the social class distinction; first job as a cashier at the "big shop"(general store) in 1934; operations of the general store which was large with various Departments; leaving work at 21 years when married; recreational activities run by the local Club; dance bands; local dances and going to the movies where a cousin played the piano for the silent movies; her work on the Discovery Museum & Geneaology Centre and Joe Lyons Cottage; writing a book about Stanley (Historic Stanley) using husband's verse and mother's painting; more about establishing the Museum to assist with the fund raising for the Church.
