For the first time federal political parties are required to declare all gifts received in the run-up to an election. The ALP declares $331,785 while the Liberals declare a mere $315, an astonishing figure in the light of their spending $2,564, 501 on advertising, consultancy fees, opinion polls etc. in the campaign, three and a half times that spent by the ALP national secretariat .--Information provided by Geoff Pryor.
