The papers in MS 6690 document many aspects of Jerzy Zubrzycki's career as an academic with the Australian National University and his participation in a number of organisations and government bodies. These include the Australian Ethnic Affairs Council, Australian Immigration Advisory Council, World Health Organisation Fourth World Project, Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, Australians for Just Refugees Programs, National Museum of Australia and Australian Aid to Poland. The collection includes correspondence, 1983-2005, typescripts of most of Zubrzycki's books, reports, reviews and a large number of publications. Particular strengths of the collection are the records of Zubrzycki's extensive involvement with government and cultural institutions. These document the attitudes toward multiculturalism in Australia in the 1960s and 1970s (188 boxes, 2 fol. boxes, 1 fol. item).
The Acc01.149 instalment includes files on the Catholic Church, immigration and multicultural issues, including 13 folders on Arthur Calwell's immigration policy, Zubrzycki's radio broadcasts, correspondence and printed material (9 boxes, 2 letter boxes).
The Acc01.216 instalment consists of further papers (1 box, 3 cartons).
The Acc01.271 instalment comprises correspondence, 1999-2001, and papers relating to "Australian multiculturalism to Poland and beyond in the perspective of European integration". Includes papers in English and Polish (1 box).
The Acc02.020 instalment comprises lectures and cuttings relating to communism in eastern Europe, the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office, Eugene Kamenka valedictory seminar, 1993, and the Anti-Pornography Campaign, 1984. The instalment also includes miscellaneous reprints of Zubrzycki's publications (2 boxes).
The Acc02.235 instalment includes correspondence, drafts, conference papers, newspaper cuttings, pamphlets, publications and video cassettes. There is a copy of For A.D. Hope: poems and a building (1977) (3 boxes).
The Acc03.097 instalment comprises six folders containing papers relating to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, including general correspondence and photographs (three folders), Australian Institute of Polish Affairs, Australian Chesterton Society, and Polish-Jewish relations in Australia, together with the printed program of the Polish-Australian Legal Association Conference, 1992 (1 box).
The Acc05.102 instalment comprises general correspondence, 1983-2005, Australians for Just Refugees programs, lectures and newspaper articles, papers relating to the Italian Australian Institute, Pope John Paul II and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, and sound recordings (2 cartons).
The Acc06.079 instalment comprises six files, including correspondence with Mark Lopez, 1995-2003, correspondence with Pierre Ryckmans, 1997, Boyer lectures, 1996-1999, miscellaneous correspondence, 1996-2005, Doctor honoris causa, 1999, Australian Institute of Polish Affairs, 2001-2006, and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences: XI Session, 2005-2006 (1 box).
The Acc09.142 instalment includes newspaper clippings, book reviews and photographs removed from books donated by Zubrzycki to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) Library in 1988. The reviews include some written by Zubrzycki himself. The clippings concern political events in the Ukraine, China, Afghanistan, and the Soviet Union. The photographs are copy prints of press images from the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, including a portrait of Imre Nagy (1 folder).
- Biography/History:

Demographer, sociologist, academic and author. Polish-born Professor Zubrzycki, AO, CBE, became the founding Professor of Sociology at the Australian National University in 1970, and emeritus professor in 1994. Zubrzycki settled in Australia in 1956 and had a long and distinguished career. Zubrzycki was also a visiting fellow at universities around the world, and in 1994 Pope John Paul II made him a foundation member of the Pontifical Academy of the Social Sciences. Zubrzycki wrote extensively on immigration and served on government councils and inquiries into Australian immigration and multicultural policies. His publications include, Polish immigrants in Britain: a study of adjustment (1956), Immigrants in Australia: statistical supplement (1960), The foreign-language press in Australia, 1848-1964 (with Miriam Gilson, 1967), and, White Australia: tolerance and intolerance in race relations (1995).
