Life of John Charles Dark - an article about Dark the surveyor who was fatally speared on Oct. 23 1844 by natives while exploring the Eyre Peninsular, South Australia, which was prepared for publication in the proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society, South Australian Branch by Somerville (Annotated ts. 142 p.); Notes on aspects of the Burke and Wills expedition; critical notes on Frank Clune's book Dig; notes on the naming of Mt Shillinglaw, Pasley Ck., and Mt. Gardiner; ts. copies of reports of exploration in South Australia by G.W. Goyder, Assistant Surveyor, and Captain R.E. Freeling, Surveyor General, presente to the Royal Geographical Society of London in 1857 and 1858; and ts. extracts from the South Australian Register, Oct. 1857-Jan. 1858 of articles re the gold search.

Somerville was an ex-railway engineer and surveyor. The notes were prepared to assist a Mr. Weatherstone who was engaged in research on the Bourke and Wills expedition.
