Tranter speaks of the beginnings of his writing career in the 1960s ; he recalls his childhood and studies ; travelling and working overseas ; publishing his poetry in magazines and in book form. Tranter describes his method of work ; the stumbling blocks encountered by readers approaching his verses. He describes his poetry and reads the poems: "The germ", "Robert Adamson", "Sonnet no. 63", "Sonnet no. 95", and "Sonnet no. 55".
