Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Shadford speaks about her early memories living at The Bungalow, Alice Springs, and about her removal at around the age of 5 to St. Mary's Anglican Hostel where her mother worked in the laundry. When her mother's employment was terminated, she was refused access to her daughter. Shadford describes living conditions in the Hostel and her mother's response to the separation. She left the Hostel at around the age of 18 and worked in a variety of jobs. She subsequently left Alice Springs and got married and had children. She talks about her efforts to trace her family, and about her views on the policy of removal and the need for compensation for separated children.
