Metzler was in the RAAF when he co-authored his first book Pilot's Theory of Flight (1946) . After 1967, he started writing on the history and technical aspects of tennis, many of which were translated into other languages. He came to children's writing late, publishing his autobiographical childhood story when he was seventy-five years old. (AustLit)
