MS 98 comprises a manuscript list of prisoners confined in Newgate and tried at the Old Bailey, 1787-1789, giving details of their offences and sentences. The list of prisoners, written on 334 pages, includes those who were ordered to be transported to Australia. At the front is an index containing about 4,000 names. Bound in vellum. This collection was formerly in the possession of Reverend H.S. Cotton, Chaplain at Newgate between 1823 and 1836 (1 fol. box).
