Summary

Ethel "Monte" Punshon speaks of living in Ballarat; the dangers of fire and the joy when electricity came; Miss Carr's school, childhood activites such as learning to stand in a barrel, and games at school, her main playmate Uncle Charlie, characters in Ballarat; the poem 'My puss is very ill indeed' ' the death of Queen Victoria; the church as the centre of everything; her pony; working for her father; moving to St Kilda at age 6; becoming a pupil teacher, Sunday school picnics, clothing; wish to be an actress; opinion of childhood today; memories of local boilermakers leaving work.
