MS 235 comprises photocopies of two letters written to Bernhard Ringrose Wise, dated 13 and 20 February, 1898, concerning matters relating to the Federal Convention, 1897 (1 folder).

Biography/History

Constitutional lawyer, politician and judge. Andrew Inglis Clark represented Tasmania at the Melbourne conference on federation in 1890 and again at the Sydney convention of 1891. He was one of the four men who completed the drafting of a bill to constitute the Commonwealth of Australia. He was not a candidate at the election of Tasmanian representatives for the 1897 Federal Convention and did not approve the bill in its final form. Clark was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in June 1898.
