Emmanuel Attard, a Maltese man who migrated to Australia in 1916, speaks about his parents; living conditions during his childhood on Gozo; serving with the Malta Labour Corps at Gallipoli; his decision to come to Australia; conditions aboard the Gange on the voyage to Australia; denial of permission to land in Australia; life on New Caledonia while waiting for permission to come to Australia; landing in Sydney in 1917; working on Burrinjuck Dam, at Iron Knob and at Port Pirie; serving with the Fourteen Thirty-Second in Europe in 1918; his wife; conditions during the depression; changing attitudes towards Maltese; doing garrison duty during World War II; and his life since World War II.
