Condition; fragile, edges torn and discoloured.

An incomplete set of loose plates, numbered 2-171, from Oceanie by G.L. Domeny de Rienzi, published in Paris by Firmin Didot Freres, in 1836/1837. The original 3 vol. work has 304 plates listed (including plates 173-190 of New Zealand, and plates 254-283 of Australia, which are missing from this set). Most of the plates are from drawings by Danvin, but were engraved by a variety of people. Some of the plates have captions in French and German, others just French. Some of the plates have a second numbering system, eg. "5. Oceanie Lemaitre dir", see list for details. Each engraving has an individual catalogue record.
