The letters are mainly written to and from the members of the family and the Trustees of Alexander Russell. Both letters and documents concern the business affairs of Alexander Russell and Son, Iron Founders of Kirkaldy. Several of the papers are from or concern Alexander Clarke Davison, who was one of the trustees and the husband of Alexander Russell's eldest daughter, Marjory. Davison's letters are mainly written from Corlatt, Monaghan, Ireland, where he was a merchant, and those of the other trustees from Edinburgh. There are 42 letters, minutes of the meetings of the trustees, other documents including property settlements, and balance sheets. 1827-1848. Also a group of 4 letters and 2 newspaper cuttings 1913. Correspondence between Mrs. Christabell Mathews and J. M. Forde, "Old China" of Truth newspaper.
