Joyce Tuckwell was born at Coolah, N.S.W. in 1924. She recalls her family background, her father working the family property; the dances and concerts her parents played at, mother playing the piano and father the accordion; memories of travelling picture shows; working as a Doctor's secretary in Sydney; returning to to the family farm at Coolah in 1957; her community work in Coolah starting with driving the school bus to successfully running for local council in 1965 which led to other community responsibilities; her work on the local Hospital board; issues country towns such as Coolah have had to face since the late 1950s, such as employment, aging population, sustainable community services, declining interest in community charity organizations, rural economies.
