The Sunday Panel. 1. In a bad week for Prime Minister Bob Hawke, the Government backs away from its preferred Option C at the National Tax conference, containing a controversial proposal for a 12.5% consumption tax, in the face of strong opposition from both the unions and industry. Option C had been popularised as 'Keating's 'Tax cart', but more like a wheel barrow in the circumstances 2.The vaunted Hawke-Keating team, 'The Blues Brothers' (derived from the eponymous Hollywood movie) is somewhat reduced in status as a result. 2. The Reagan Administration is considering placing a bounty on jihadist terrorists who are hi-jacking passenger aircraft in the Mid-east. 3. Australian authorities are seeking assistance from the Italian police to verify the death of most-wanted fugitive Australian criminal Robert Trimbole who is reported to have died on a boat in the Mediterranean and buried in his home town of Plati in Calabria.--Information provided by Geoff Pryor.
