- Summary:
-
the Sunday Panel analyses the words of our statesmen and leaders in the search for any factual economies. 1. US President Reagan denies that an American aircraft shot down in Nicaragua had anything to do with the CIA. The family of an American crewman paraded before the cameras says otherwise. 2.Prime Minister Hawke commits to removing anomalies in the fringe benefits tax - but insists the substance of the tax will remain. 3. Queensland Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen wins an out-of-court settlement of $400,00 from Queensland Television Ltd arising from claims made about properties owned by his family company. 4.Senator Don Grimes, Minister for Community Services in the Hawke Government, is less than forthright about rumours of his possible resignation. 5.President Reagan and Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev are meeting in Reykjavic for Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (S.A.L.T.). Will this be a genuine thawing of the cold war? --Information provided by Geoff Pryor.
