Sydney George (Sam) Ure-Smith, publisher, discusses the importance of his father's prominent role in the development and promotion of Sydney's art scene in the 1900s. Sydney Ure-Smith (Sen.) and his partners first published the magazine 'Art in Australia' in 1916. As the editor for many years Ure-Smith (Sen.) played an influential role in the longterm success of the magazine, whose prime function had been to nurture Australian art throughout the decades. Sam speaks about his early years and his war service during World War II; his father's influence over his work in publishing; publishing books promoting Australian literature and authors; joining the Australian Book Publishers Association, eventually taking on the role as President; notable people working in the book trade from the 1940s to the mid-1970s for well known publishing houses in Australia and England.
