MS 8046 comprises family and general correspondence, diaries and notebooks dating from 1942, handwritten and typewritten literary manuscripts (some of which are unpublished), press cuttings, ledgers and other financial records including royalty statements, legal documents and photographs relating to O'Grady's life after 1942. The collection also includes screen plays for They're a weird mob by Richard Imrie and On the beach by John Paxton, and the thesis, in English, "Erzähltechnik und soziale Probleme in Nino Culottas Romanen" by Friederike Stiegler (1975-1976) (12 boxes).
The Acc08.174 instalment consists of a box of slides that belonged to O'Grady. Subjects include Apia Samoa, Algernon Street Oatley, Tokelau Islands, Georges River, Atlantic Ocean and the Panama Canal (1 packet).
The Acc11.060 instalment comprises typescripts of poetry and one short story written by O'Grady. Some of the typescripts were compiled during the Second World War and subsequently when O'Grady was working as a pharmacist on the island of U'polo (1 folder).

John O'Grady was a qualified pharmacist. He worked in a variety of jobs from 1929 to 1958, serving with the Army Medical Service from 1942-1950, and working in Samoa from 1956-1958. He then became a full-time writer. He had 18 books published, mostly humorous novels. His first book, They're a weird mob (1957), written under the pseudonym of Nino Culotta, was the most successful.
