The papers in MS 9920 document the life of Melbourne academic and historian Dorothy Fitzpatrick and comprise extensive personal correspondence with family, colleagues and associates; papers relating to Fitzpatrick's secondary and tertiary teaching appointments; research notebooks and drafts of her early work on the Australian wool trade; personal documents; and some correspondence and other papers relating to her husband Brian Fitzpatrick and his literary estate (8 boxes).
The Acc09.146 instalment comprises financial and legal documents, 1968-2003 (1 packet).
The Acc09.162 instalment comprises various of Fitzpatrick's financial records kept by her brother-in-law and financial advisor, Alan Douglas (1 box).
- Biography/History:

Historian, teacher and academic. Dorothy Mary Fitzpatrick (née Davies) graduated with first class honours in history from the University of Melbourne in 1934, then tutored in political philosophy and economic history at the University. In 1939-1940 Fitzpatrick undertook extensive research for a study of the wool trade. After her marriage to Brian Fitzpatrick and the birth of their daughter and son, she returned to teaching, initially as a school teacher at Shelford CEGGS in 1953 and later at Melbourne CEGGS from 1954 to 1958. She was senior teaching fellow and senior tutor in the History Department of Monash University, 1962 to 1978. Fitzpatrick died on 7 September, 2001.
