Summary

The three volumes are: 1. Diary kept by Dora Birtles on board the "Gullman". The diary is in two parts: From Camden Haven to Madagascar (29 April to 13 July 1932); and From Bribie Island to Stanley Island (31 May to 13 July 1932). 2. "Bosna: a jouney to Yugoslavia of life under Tito", by Dora and Bert Birtles [n.d.]. 3. "The husband who was to mind the house: a ballad for the young and for married people after the old Norse folk tale" by Bert Birtles (1927).

Biography/History

Dora was a teacher before sailing from New Castle, on the cutter "Gullmam", to Singapore in 1932 and an author. She lived in Asia and Europe for a number of years. Her books include "North-west by north: journal of a voyage" (1935), "The overlander" (1946) and "Bonza the bull" (1949). She was married to the writer, Bert Birtles.
