Summary

Cartoon depicting a pond with 6 inflated frogs, each with the name of a state and the debt per adult of the state. A large man feeds the N.S.W. frog with bellows entitled "Public Waste Dept.". The frog representing Queensland has exploded with various figures and the words "Civil Servants" bursting out. In the background a large bull.

Souter worked for William Brooks and Company ca. 1886-1892 -- Encyclopedia of Australian Art / McCulloch, Alan. 1984.

Condition: edges torn and discoloured.

Inscriptions: "Issued by the Taxpayers' Union. Head Office 8 Spring Street, Sydney. Become a member, and help "Reform". Write to the Secretary for Literature" -- printed u.l. corner. Title and "Every schoolboy knows the fate of the frog who would emulate the bull. The world is full of people who are no wiser." -- printed below image. "Souter" -- printed l.l. corner.
