Notes

Originally published: London, "ordered by the House of Commons to be printed, 26th April, 1838".

"The extremely rare Hobart edition of the highly important Franklin paper published as a parliamentary Paper in London in April 1838. Ferguson remarks that this paper 'contains an enormous amount of detailed information with regard to convict discipline, prefaced by Franklin's views thereof' (Ferguson). Added to this dispatch is one of Maconochie's seminal papers, among his earliest published reflections on convict management. All copies of the Hobart edition of the Franklin dispatch recorded by Ferguson are associated with the Maconochie paper and, indeed, they were issued together in wrappers as one volume" - New Century Antiquarian Books Catalogue 12 (July 2002) item [19]
