McGinness was removed from his mother at the age of 5 after the death of his father. He was placed at Kahlin Compound, Darwin and remained there until 1924 when he was released into the care of his sister and her husband. He speaks about his political activism for Indigenous rights in the Northern Territory and Queensland and about his involvement with the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. McGinness also talks about his friendship with Xavier Herbert and about the 1967 referendum.
