Journal of H.M.S. Dolphin 21 June 1764 to 9 May 1766 with marginal notes probably by John Hawkesworth. As well as giving meteorological and navigational information, the journal gives brief descriptions of places visited, especially their geographical features, and mentions the activities of the crew on board.
- Biography/History:

Navigator. Byron commanded H.M.S. Dolphin in a voyage of discovery round the world 2 July 1764 to 9 May 1766. He passed through the Straits of Magellan then westward across the Pacific making few discoveries. He stayed at Tinian Island (Marianas) for a few months then sailed back to England via Batavia and the Cape of Good Hope.
