Summary

Goat on a hill is the story of Gil Mackay, a kid who keeps his eyes open and his mouth shut. A childhood of sparks; hot tears, sudden fear, rage and wild, ruthless glee, where 'going out to play' is a daily gift of escape and definition, where the world is hammered into shape. Growing up is difficult. Gil is half guided and half bullied by 'the terrible sisters', shielded by his mother, disappointed by his father and loved by his grandpa. Set in Melbourne in the fifties and brought to life through the eyes of an eight year old boy, Goat on a hill is an irresistible comedy of expectations, dreams and brilliant survival.
