Coastal profiles of the Cape Verde Islands of Sall (Sal), Bonavista (Boa Vista Island) and Mayo (Maio Island).
- Biography/History:

Seaman and artist. Joined HMS Sirius as able bodied seaman Dec 1786 and promoted to midshipman Sept 1787 on voyage to New South Wales. Sailed on Sirius on voyage to Cape of Good Hope 1788-89 and was at Norfolk Island in 1790-91. Returned to England in April 1792.

- Title from inscription at top of sheet. Individual titles from the inscription below each image.
- Inscriptions: Signed "Geo. Raper 1790"-- in ink l.r. corner. "Cape de Verd Islands"-- at head of sheet. "(Hazy weather)Isd. of Sall (a) S.W [by?] W. (b) W.b. S.[&?] (c) the N.W. point W.b.N. offshore 3 or 4 leagues"-- in ink beneath top painting. Points a,b and c are inscribed on the image. "(Hazy weather). Isd. Bonavista (d) S.S.W.[by?]W. [&?] (e) the N.W. point W. offshore 3 Leags ( r ) reef" -- in ink beneath middle painting. Points d,r and e are inscribed on the image. "(Hazy weather) Isd. Mayo ([f?]) N.W b.W. [&?] (g) the N. point N.W. [by?] N. off shore 2 leagues"-- in ink beneath the lower painting. Points [f?] and g are inscribed on the image.
