Walkom speaks about her family background and early adult life. She worked as a seamstress at Cootamundra Girls Home, N.S.W. from 1952 until its closure in 1975. She outlines the routines and living conditions at the Home and talks about the staff, including Matron Hiscock and her successors. Walkom also speaks about the attitudes of Cootamundra townsfolk towards the Home and Aboriginal people.
