Biography/History

Educated at Melbourne and Cambridge universities, Derek John Mulvaney has been Australia's foremost prehistorian who has resisted critics of Aboriginal studies and has presented Aboriginal archaeological remains as a universal heritage. He was Foundation Professor of Prehistory at the Australian National University from 1971-85, chaired the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies from 1982-84, and the Australian Heritage Commission from 1986-89.
