Summary

Ridgeway speaks about the impact on his family of their forced relocation to Purfleet Aboriginal Reserve at Taree, N.S.W. He also talks about his early working life. Ridgeway eventually applied for a position with the Aborigines Welfare Board (AWB). He was appointed as Assistant Reserve Manager and his wife worked as the Matron at AWB Murrin Bridge Station from 1952. He later worked at the Commonwealth Department of Aboriginal Affairs. He discusses the psychological effects of child removal on mothers, particularly those who never know what became of their children, and on children left with no cultural identity.
