This collection comprises papers and material relating to Cheryl Stock's career as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Material in Boxes 1-7 are divided into two sections. The first comprises papers relating to Stock's career in general and the second to her work as founding Artistic Director of the Northern Queensland contemporary dance company Dance North (1984-1995). There are working notes, research notes, programs, scripts, publicity material, press cuttings and photographs relating to the various productions with which Stock has been involved. The correspondence included in the collection relates only to specific productions on which Stock was working. There are also copies of journal articles, keynote addresses and seminar papers by Stock. Material in Boxes 8-16 mainly comprise papers, reports, photographs and material relating to Stock's role as founding artistic director and choreographer of Dance North, her involvement with the World Dance Alliance Global as Secretary General (2008-2016), and her time in Vietnam, where she was the first teacher, director and choreographer to introduce contemporary dance. There are also funding applications, budgets, reports, program schedules, choreographic notes, photographs and notebooks. Material also relates to site specific work as well as interviews and fieldwork undertaken by Stock for her doctoral thesis.

Cheryl Stock is a dancer, choreographer, director, educator, researcher and advocate. She was awarded an Order of Australia for significant services to the performing arts in 2014. She is a Board member of physical theatre company Legs on the Wall, is an advisor to the arts sector, and publishes academic papers, examinations and reviews. From 2016-2018 she was Inaugural Head of Cultural Leadership and Director of Graduate Studies at NIDA. During the first 15 years of her career Stock was a full-time dancer and choreographer/director, and became Dance North's founding Artistic Director and resident choreographer (1985-1996). Her cultural exchange programs with Dancenorth began a 15 year close engagement with Asia where she directed twenty cultural exchange programs, for which she was awarded two gold medals from the Vietnamese government for services to culture and to the women's movement. Stock's doctoral thesis related to intercultural performance in Vietnam, and led to her appointment as Head of Dance at Queensland University of Technology (2000-2006). She has choreographed/directed over 50 dance and theatre works in Australia and overseas. In 2016 the work Twilight was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Community Dance at the Australian Dance Awards. As Secretary General of World Dance Alliance (2009 - 2016) she convened two Global Summits in Brisbane in 2008 and in Angers, France in 2014. She has served as National President of the Australian Dance Council (Ausdance), Chair of the Dance Board and Emerging Choreographers Fund and member of the Theatre Board for the Australia Council, as well as a member of the Queensland Arts Advisory Committee. Stock was a recipient of an Australian Artists Creative Fellowship (1994-1997) and in 2003 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Dance Awards.
